leaving your complexion refreshed, balanced, and glowing!

Essential Aftercare Guidelines

To secure maximum results and avoid post-treatment complications, you must stick to strict recovery rules:

•  Avoid all direct sun exposure and heavy sweat/exercise for 7 days.

•  Do not use saunas, steam rooms, jacuzzis, or hot shower streams on your face.

•  Pause all active products (retinols, vitamin C, exfoliating acids) for at least 10 days.

•  Never peel shedding skin prematurely to eliminate the risk of hyperpigmentation or scarring.

The 7-Day Downtime Timeline

Day 1 (First 12–24 Hours): Skin feels tight, red, and hot, resembling a sunburn. Touching the skin produces a noticeable “prickly” sensation as the micro-needles sit in the epidermis.  Avoid touching the area. Do not wash the treated area or apply standard skincare!

Days 2–3: The skin begins to tighten and darken. Pigmentation purges and rises to the surface before shedding.  You can now wash with a gentle gel cleanser and rinse with cool water. Apply SPF 50+

Days 4–6: Active sheet peeling and flaking peaks. The skin may become intensely itchy during this phase.  DO NOT pick, pull, or scratch the flaking skin.

Days 7–8: Peeling finishes, revealing a brightened, renewed skin layer beneath.  Keep skin protected with high-potency SPF 50+

Frequently Asked Questions

What are algae spicules?

Algae spicules are tiny needle-like structures found in certain algae and freshwater sponges. During the Zena Algae Peel, these spicules are massaged into the skin to create microchannels and stimulate the skin’s natural renewal response.
The Zena Algae Peel helps brighten the skin, improve texture and tone, reduce acne and congestion, fade the appearance of pigmentation and sun damage, soften fine lines, and support a healthier-looking glow.
No. The Zena Algae Peel is a natural, acid-free resurfacing treatment. Unlike traditional chemical peels that use acids to dissolve surface skin layers, this treatment works through algae spicules that create a natural microneedling-like effect.
Downtime depends on the depth of treatment and your skin’s response. Redness, warmth, tightness, and a prickly feeling may last 24 to 48 hours. Flaking or peeling may occur over the next 3 to 10 days as the skin renews.
Avoid direct sun exposure, heavy sweating, exercise, saunas, steam rooms, jacuzzis, hot showers on the treated area, makeup, retinol, vitamin C, exfoliating acids, and strong active products for several days after treatment. Do not pick or peel shedding skin.
Yes. The Zena Algae Peel can be performed on selected body areas including the chest, back, full arms, and half legs. It can help improve body acne, rough texture, keratosis pilaris, pigmentation, and stretch marks.

What skin concerns can the Algae Peel help with?

The treatment can help improve acne, excess oil, large pores, uneven texture, acne scars, hyperpigmentation, melasma, dark spots, sun damage, fine lines, dullness, body acne, keratosis pilaris, and stretch marks.
The Zena Algae Peel is not recommended for clients with shellfish or iodine allergies, open wounds, active skin infections, eczema, rosacea, dermatitis, or other inflammatory skin conditions. It should also be avoided if you have had injectables within the past 3 weeks, or chemical peels or microneedling within the last 4 to 6 weeks.
Yes. Retinoids, strong acids, and other active skincare products should be discontinued at least 2 to 3 weeks before treatment. Your provider will review your skincare routine during consultation to make sure your skin is properly prepared.
You may feel tingling, prickling, or a needling-like sensation as the algae spicules are massaged into the skin. After treatment, the skin may feel tight, warm, flushed, or slightly tender. Most clients find the treatment tolerable.
Visible improvement in skin texture, tone, and brightness usually begins to appear within 7 to 10 days after the peel, once the shedding process is complete.
Yes. Daily SPF 50+ is essential after the Zena Algae Peel. The skin must be protected from sun exposure to reduce the risk of irritation, pigmentation, and delayed healing.
